Reading the LT2 and BC Wind Results
Two procurements closed this spring that are worth reading closely if you develop renewables in Ontario or BC. In Ontario, the IESO's Long-Term 2 energy window awarded contracts to 14 projects totaling 1,315 megawatts, twelve solar and two wind, at an average of 8.78 cents per kilowatt-hour. Its capacity window added 640 megawatts of battery storage. In BC, the 2025 Call for Power awarded four wind projects totaling about 1,158 megawatts, roughly $4.3 billion in private investment, and for the first time set no cap on project size.
Both procurements formalize Indigenous ownership as part of how the projects are structured, with equity built into the winning bids. That reflects a role Indigenous partners have held in this work for a long time, now written more explicitly into the procurement frameworks. For developers, the practical signals are clear. A partnership structured early and genuinely, a credible interconnection plan, and demonstrated local and Nation support are what separate a competitive bid from one that stalls. These are front-end decisions, not items to resolve near financial close.
